Jupiter 57 is the place to get Italian snacks and treats direct from Italy
Picture the perfect Christmas dinner: A perfectly roasted turkey. A juicy and delightfully salted cured leg of ham. A pasta dish that’s just there because carbs.
Perfect, right?
WRONG.
You don’t even know you’re missing out on the perfect accompaniments: gigantic Italian sweet breads.
Among others, panettone and pandoro are classic Italian breads, with a long history dating back to centuries. They’re also traditionally prepared and eaten over Christmas and New Year’s celebrations with family and friends. Both are hulking, formidable bakes made with flour and eggs, weighing about 1kg and standing between 12 and 15 cm.

What’s a panettone and pandoro
Panettone hails from Milan and is a tall, dome-shaped bread that’s light and airy in texture. It’s known for its distinctive mix of candied fruits (like orange and citron) and raisins, giving it a sweet, fruity flavour. When you slice into a panettone, it’s all about that soft, fluffy texture, with a lovely fragrance that’s a bit like sweet bread meets fruitcake.
Pandoro, on the other hand, comes from Verona. It’s shaped like a star when viewed from above, and it’s often dusted with icing sugar, giving it a snowy, winter vibe. Unlike panettone, pandoro doesn’t contain fruits or raisins. It’s more about enjoying the pure, sweet flavour of the bread itself, which is golden in colour and has a rich, buttery taste. The texture is also a bit spongier and cake-like, compared to the breadier feel of panettone.
